Face the Son

Sitting on my sunporch floor, I was studying a newly snipped anemone bud in a face.  The golden sunlight was filtering through the windows making the room fill with warmth - a humid warmth as some of the first spring rains had come yesterday.  Having just finished teaching a mini botany course, I was gazing at the features and colors of the petals and flower deep colored anthers and stamen on the flower centers. Suddenly, like the sunlight flooding the room, the words "Face the Sun" flooded my brain.  But it was not the sunshine that my mind stayed dwelling on, but rather, the creator of the sun, Jesus - the Son of God.
Quickly, I grabbed my favorite notebook and pen knowing that those words were the start of my newest poem.  Sitting in the hammock and feeling the spring breeze, I faced the Son.

When shadows come where once was day
Face the Son

When lesser lights draw your eyes away
Face the Son

When clouds forebode along your way
Face the Son

The things don't happen as you thought they may
Face the Son

When anxious thoughts among the night disturb the place you lay
Face the Son

When you are crushed by what people say
Face the Son

For the Son will shine upon your day
The lesser light He'll drive away
He'll cover you with shelter for your way
The story He writes is better - So come what may
He'll give you peace where'er you lay
And heal the hurt from what others say

Face the Son
