I stood where you walked today

Last week I had the privilege to go to the National Holocaust Museum thanks to a friend who got us some last minute tickets.  As I walked the path of the Jews (and others) leading up to and through World War 2, there was a sense of silence and heaviness.  One particularly ominous moment was walking a portion of a cobblestone pathway from one of the ghettos.  I couldn't just leave that path quickly.  I had to capture that moment, and I kept thinking "I stood where you walked today".  Something about the pathway made the history come even more to life.  Real people walked these paths, and it felt like holy ground for the lives that never walked those paths again.  Oh world in pain and hurt - listen to the silence of these cobblestones and never forget the price that was paid due to hate.  Love your neighbor
before it is too late.

I Stood Where You Walked Today

I stood where you walked today

Pondering this path you tread

I stood where you walked today

Once filled with sorrow and dread

I stood where you walked today

I never want to forget

I stood where you walked today

Grieving history we now regret

How did you come to walk here?

In danger and in fear

How did you come to walk here?

Not knowing what fate was drawing near

How did you come to walk here?

In conditions that make us shudder

How did you come to walk here?

Because their dissent they did not utter

Why did you come to walk here?

What did we need to learn?

Why must your homes be let to burn?

I stood where you walked today

Not worthy of the place

I stood where you walked today

Upon the sacred space

I stood where you walked today

Your life was not in vain

I stood where you walked today

We are sorry for your pain

You walked here due to hate

For wicked men spoke

You walked here due to hate

From their stupor the people ne’er awoke

You walked here due to hate

The people took the bait

You walked here due to hate

Wake up before it’s too late

The lesson here is love

The lesson now you sing

Peace on Earth

Goodwill toward Man

A love that only Christ can bring
