The Wreckage

To all those who are left behind in the wreckage

Who live the reality of shattered relationships or shattered dreams

Who have the courage to stay with the wreck to mend the broken places

To you who are the brave, valiant souls

Who have "mourned with those who mourn"

. . .

This is for you.

The Wreckage

I find myself here -

Once more among the wreckage

The shattered remains of a beautiful place

Left marred by pain & conflict.

The storm had come

Upon our sea

Engulfing us in darkest night

The Captain steered us skillfully

and bid the sea

"Be Still"

But even the best vessels

Strengthened by Wisdom

&

Guided by Strength

Bear battle scars of the storm.

I walked the shore

And from the sand was

Picking up the pieces that

Shattered in the night.

Slowly, so slowly,

I fitted them back together

Then clumsily, so clumsily,

I dropped them - Leaving them worse than before

The Captain walked beside me and

Kindly called my name.

He picked up the strands of rope and carpentry.

Then, the Greatest Carpenter, made beauty from the wreck.

The vessel took its shape

Once more

When I had given up hope

But just when I thought

We might set to sea,

The storm came yet again

And dashing, beating

The vessel yet again,

Through day and into night.

I awoke, standing - no. . . huddled,

among the wreckage.

The storm had gone its way

Unhurt by all the pain.

Thoughtless, leaving me amongst the wreckage.

Weary, so weary,

Unable to clean it up.

Grieving, so grieved,

Unable to stand up.

Yet in the silent shores of pain

Among the waves of grief,

A hand reaches down to

Calm my fear

To bring it all to peace.

The Master Carpenter arrives

To lift our shattered lives.

He'll mend the broken places

and

Patch the splintered wood.

He walks the grief beside us with

Comfort that knows

The pain the splintered wood gives.

And, Hands that once were broken,

Will bind the broken hearts

Left crumbled in the wreckage

Beside the quiet sea.
